World Malaria Day: MTN Ghana Takes Malaria Fight to Madina Municipality

MTN Ghana staff volunteers who ‘stormed’ the hospital to donate mosquito nets

April 27, 2018//-MTN Ghana staff volunteers on World Malaria Day ‘stormed’ Pentecost Hospital in Madina to distribute over 100 Insecticide Treated Mosquito Nets (ITNs) to pregnant women, nursing mothers and children at the hospital to fight mosquitoes which spread deadly malaria.

The gesture formed part of the telecom company’s efforts to eradicating malaria in the Madina municipality in the Greater Accra Region and the country at large.

Similarly donation exercises were held across the country to mark the World Malaria Day which falls on 25th April every year to recognize among other things efforts being made worldwide  to fight malaria.

Addressing the staff, nursing mothers and patients of the Pentecost Hospital after the donation,  the Acting Services Executive of MTN Ghana, Samuel Koranteng said: ” The donation is part of efforts to mark the World Malaria Day by creating awareness about the devastating nature of malaria, the effects and how it can be prevented”.

To this end, MTN Ghana Foundation which is the corporate social responsibility arm of the telecom giant has distributed over 900 ITNs to pregnant women, nursing mothers and children across the country, since 2016.

He added: “We believe these treated nets which have been distributed were well utilized by the beneficiaries. It is our hope that our contribution will go a long way to help in eradicating malaria and achieve the objectives for 2020″.

We at MTN Ghana Foundation will continue to build on our past successes and improve our efforts at increasing the awareness of such an adamant killer in our community,” Mr. Koranteng stressed.

He used the occasion to call on all stakeholders to redouble their support towards the reduction of the incidence of malaria and malaria related deaths in the country.

The Acting General Manager of the Pentecost Hospital, Agnes Asare thanked MTN Ghana for coming to the aid of the hospital.
