Vodafone Ghana’s Mobile For Good Initiative Earns Praises

Haris Broumidis, CEOGHANA’SDeputy Minister for Communications, Ato Sarpong has commended Vodafone Ghana for its “mobile for good” initiative that sought to engage people to use mobile phones in other areas than just communication.

He said the initiative is laudable and should be encouraged especially as it is directly in line with the country’s agenda to deliver social change in health, education, environment and economic development.

According to Mr. Sarpong the concept “mobile for good” was designed to help people to utilise mobile technology to make communities in the country better.

The Deputy Minister was speakingat the Vodafone Ghana Foundation’s “Mobile for Good” launch at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.

“Mobile technology has become an essential part of life on which millions of people depend for everyday and emergency communications,” he noted.

In the area of commerce, he hinted that government was streamlining technological efforts to helpGhanaian organizations in several sectors to tackle social problems using mobile-based reminders,education programs, feedback surveys and other interactive communications.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Vodafone Ghana, Haris Broumidis told the gathering at the launch of “mobile for good” that birth of another ingenious technology related programme falls in line with Vodafone’s passion for innovationand commitment to using mobile technology to drive social change.

“With the launch of Mobile 4 Good, we are reiterating our promise to invest more into the communities we serve, reach out to people in need and promote high standards in the telecommunication industry,” He added.

Mr. Broumidis saidthe communication company is excited about government’s endorsement and supportfor the initiative, as it will improve lives and bring smiles to thousands of people in this country.

Vodafone Ghana Foundation Chairman, Prof. C.N.B Tagoe said mobile communications technologies could address some of the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges and it is our responsibility to utilize mobile technology to mobilize social change and improving people’s lives.

He indicated that the Foundation has as a result improving of lives, introduced a number of sustainable groundbreaking initiativesincluding Healthline 255, Healthline app and Healthline Voice message.

Vodafone foundation during“mobile for good” launch rewarded seven out of over 100 applications the telecommunication company received.

Each of the applicant received GHC50, 000 .00 to implement the project they purposed to use mobile phones to do to make lives better
