MTN Ghana Marks 20th Anniversary Celebration

MTN Ghana has launched its 20th anniversary celebration in Accra and pledged to continue to work on enhancing customer experience across the length and breadth of the country.

Speaking at a media and stakeholders launch of the anniversary in Accra, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Ebenezer Asante added: “At MTN, our staff have been trained to understand that no matter what their functional responsibility or level is, we all must focus on this-The Customer.”

“We believe that when we focus on the customer the future takes care of itself”, he stated.

The theme of the 20th anniversary celebration is: ‘Two decades of brightening lives; embracing a future of unlimited opportunities’. While anniversary activities include MTN @ 20 mega promo, MTN festivals, 4G launch, MoMo month, a digital fair (ifest),  anniversary public lectures, anniversary dinners, and  health screenings .

Tracing the journey of the telecom giant, Mr Asante said: “MTN entered the picture in 2006, and is proud to have been part of Scancom’s 20year history, responsible for half, that is 10 fulfilling years of that history, and it is indeed his great pleasure to launch the celebrations in recognition of Scancom’s twenty years of providing innovative services to Ghanaians”.

Scancom which started operations back in 1996 with approximately 20, including six Ghanaians can today boast of 1919 employees, with 685 been direct employees, 57 are contract employees and 1177 been third party contractors, according to him.

“The proactive approach of MTN Ghana has resulted in the company becoming the leading service provider in the growing and highly competitive sector”, Mr Asante noted.

On investment in telecom infrastructure, he indicated that from 2006, MTN Ghana has made investments in various sectors of the telecom network amounting to approximately $2.5 billion.

“This year we are investing $96 million in the network, made up of $62 million in the traditional network, $16 million in IT infrastructure and $18 million in LTE deployment for our 4G license”, Mr Asante told journalists at the well-attended launch.

He continued: “The journey has not only been exciting and eventful. It has been spiced with useful lessons and above all it had been rewarding and fulfilling. For all along, I have always harboured the idea of crusading the importance quality telecommunication service provision in Ghana”

“In March, this great country, Ghana turned 59, and we are humbled to have played an important role in the country in a significant portion of that period. Our 20th anniversary celebration is therefore not so much a time simply for festivities as it is, and will involve, reflecting on our evolution into what we are today and a view of prospects for the future.” the MTN Ghana CEO added.

Mr Asante stated that the company strives at all times to offer service models that are tailor-made to their client’s specific needs, and it is in line with that the service provider has over 17million subscribers on its network.

He thanked everyone who has contributed to the growth of MTN in Ghana, the team that acquired the first license and the Government of Ghana who gave them the approval to commence operations.

In a congratulatory message, a Deputy Minister of Communications, Ato Sarpong paid glowing tributes to the present and past management and board directors of MTN Ghana for growing the brand to become the most preferred network in the country in spite of the stiff competition in the telecom industry.
