The world’s top ranked team, Belgium, have been boosted by the return of Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne.

De Bruyne trained for the first time with his country at the European Championship on Monday, having recovered from a double facial fracture suffered in last month’s Champions League final and could feature against Denmark on Thursday.

SuperSport viewers on DStv and GOtv are set to be treated to a thrilling UEFA Euro 2020 Group B match when Denmark faces Belgium at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen on the evening of Thursday 17 June 2021.

The Red Devils got their quest for a first taste at major tournament success off and running with a 3-0 win over Russia in Saint Petersburg.

Denmark lost 1-0 to Finland in their tournament opener in a match that was overshadowed by Christian Eriksen’s on-field collapse.

Eriksen suffered a heart attack just before half-time in the game and received CPR on the pitch before being taken to hospital, where he is recovering.

Belgium defender Toby Alderweireld, who was a teammate of Eriksen’s at both Ajax Amsterdam and Tottenham Hotspur, admitted that he isn’t looking forward to Thursday’s match against the Danes.

“It’s not pleasant to have to play them now,” said Alderweireld. “But it won’t be fun for the Danes either.

“It can go two ways: it can give them extra strength, or maybe not. But I think we have to look at ourselves and approach that game as professionally as possible. And also try to win it. That’s all we can do.”

Furthermore, Alderweireld said he found it difficult to focus after hearing of Eriken’s collapse but is thankful that the Danish midfielder is recovering.

“I have known Christian for a long time,” he added. “When I heard the news, I was no longer thinking about my own match. At that moment you are just seeking information about whether he is doing well.

“So not just me, but everyone was really happy and relieved when we got the news on the bus ride to our game that he was conscious and could even talk.

“How they dealt with that situation was incredible. A textbook example. They have my eternal respect for that. But we will try to win.”

While Belgium’s best finish at a European Championship came as runners-up in 1980, Denmark were surprise winners of the 1992 showpiece hosted in Sweden.
