Kenya Courts Ghana to Join Fight Against Terrorism

Mahama 2President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta has urged the President of Ghana, President John Dramani Mahama to join forces with his country to fight the menace of terrorism in the African continent.

According to him, terrorism is eroding the achievements won during the struggle for independence and nationhood and this must be resisted.

Delivering his speech as the Special Guest of Honor at the 59th Independence celebration held at the Black Star Square, Accra, Ghana, Mr. Kenyatta said the vision of a unified continent must not be lost because of the recent spates of terrorist attacks in the continent.

He observed that Africa is making a deliberate shift to boost intra Africa trade and urged Ghanaian businesses to take that opportunity and invest in Kenya.

Delivering his Independence Day Presidential address, President John Dramani Mahama said that the successes and failures of the country belong to all Ghanaians and not anyone individual.

Ghanaians must show glory in what they have and work at getting what they do not have, he stated.

President Mahama added: “We must invest ourselves not only in the achievements our nation has chalked but also in the challenges because each of us is the face of Ghana”.

Earlier in the day, President Mahama reviewed the 59th Independence Day parade which was attended by two African presidents. They were Presidents of Guinea-Bissau, Jose Mario Vaz and Uhuru Kenyata of Kenya.

The President and his guests including the Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur were treated to a variety of performances – dance, gymnastic, masquerades display, school children and civil organization marches and military and police displays.

There were also some expatriates tapping their fee and shaking their heads in sync with the tunes playing in the background.

The all-female riders of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service clad in their beautiful outfit led by their Commander ASP Hajia Mohammed Sahadatu who is also the head of Nima Police MTTD wooed everybody.

The leadership of the governing National Democratic Congress is in attendance led by the Chairman of the party, Kofi Porturphy.

The leadership of the Parliament has attended led by Rt. Hon. Speaker Edward Doe Adjaho and the leadership of both the Majority caucus and the Minority caucus.

The flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo was also in attendance flanked by the acting Chairman of the party, Freddie Blay and the flagbearer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Ivor Kobina Greenstreet.

The former Presidents of the Republic of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor and Jerry John Rawlings are in attendance with their families.

Ghana was the first black African country to gain independence on 6th March, 1957.
