Super Saturday on SuperSport returns on this Saturday (July 2) after a 14-year absence.

There will be many new faces and a fresh feel to the popular show that offers a lively (and often unusual) take on sport.

Veteran sport host Neil Andrews will return with celebrated TV and radio personality Anele Mdoda in the co-host’s chair. There will be several new pundits joining them, and also Pommie Mbangwa and Phumlani Msibi, the dapper duo who helped fire up the original Super Saturday.

SuperSport regulars Thato Moeng and Motshidisi Mohone will be correspondents and producers will rotate through a stable of experts depending on the weekend’s offerings. Guests will also dip into entertainment and social media content. The show will thereafter release loads of extra content on social media like extended interviews and behind-the-scenes takes.

One regular feature will be Super SaturTaxi, where Andrews will interview big names from the world of sport and entertainment while being chauffeured.

Although the show will be primarily studio-based, there will be exceptions. Other weekends may see broadcasts from major events like football finals or derbies. The philosophy underpinning Super Saturday is that no matter what you are up to on the weekend, the show can fit into your plans.

Viewers can watch it on their phones while waiting at the mall, or even have it on television while packing for camping.

Speaking from Los Angeles, co-host Mdoda said, “I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am to join the SuperSport family. A giant that has been in my life since the M-Net decoder.

Simply put, I’m on centre court and it’s at full capacity. I am looking forward to the evolution of Super Saturday, a show that brought a lot of sporting insight but mostly a lot of laughs.”

Andrews is delighted to be back in the Super Saturday hot seat.

“I cannot wait to bring the show back. SuperSport viewers have been asking – some begging – for its return for many years but what excites me most is that we now live in such an exciting new world where fans are consuming their content on multiple platforms.

“While Super Saturday will deliver the quirky, irreverent tones of its super successful predecessor, this reincarnation will showcase fresh faces and innovative content.

I’m particularly excited about our SuperSaturTaxi inserts which will allow viewers to get up-close and personal with some interesting guests aligned to each week’s main event.

The perfect starting point to weekend viewing takes place from 09:00 CAT every Saturday, beginning July 2.
