Russia In Zim To Commission $3Bn Platinum Mine

CedisRUSSIA, through its Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov, is set to commission a US$3bn platinum mine in Zimbabwe on Tuesday.

Lavrov is expected to commission the Darwendale Intergrated Platinum Group Metals Project.

According to media reports, the platinum mining project holds an estimated worth of $3bn. It is reported to have the potential capacity to produce 600 000 ounces of platinum annually.

Lavrov and other Russian business people were set to sign several agreements and memoranda of understanding with their Zimbabwean counterparts on Monday.

The Russian delegation, which also includes Russia’s Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, is interested in various sectors of the economy, among them mining and energy.

The signing of memoranda of understanding with Russian companies comes just a few weeks after Zimbabwe signed similar agreements with the Chinese government and companies.
