Accra, Ghana//-Officials of MTN Ghana have sensitised hundreds of Labone Senior High School (SHS) on cybersecurity as part of the telecom company’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

Addressing the students, Madam Jacqueline Hanson-Kotei, Senior Manager In-charge of Enterprise Information Security and Governance at MTN Ghana, said the aim of the roadshow is to educate the students on how to stay safe on the internet.

She added that as young people who depend on the internet for information, it is more important than ever before to protect themselves against cyberthreats or attacks by not exposing themselves to unknown people online.

Madam Bernice Badu-Marfoh, Enterprise Information Security Analyst at MTN Ghana in her presentation also advised the students to be extra vigilant on verification in order not to expose themselves, families, and others for cyberattacks.

She added that they should change their passwords regularly. This, according to her, would make them safer and stronger against any cyberattack and its related activities.

Madam Badu-Marfoh, who spoke eloquently on the subject matter, noted that strengthening one’s social media account(s) would reduce the risk of being attacked digitally.

In this digital era where everyone is online, it is important for smartphone users to desist from downloading suspicious materials and images online.

On her part, an Assistant Manager of Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority (CSA), Madam Abigail Kaki Onyame, also advised the students to refrain from posting their nude pictures and other pornographic materials online.

“It is a crime to do that”, she stated.

Madam Kaki Onyame was quick to advise the students to desist from meeting people physically they have met on social media.

Some of these people, according to her, could be predators.

Furthermore, she cautioned them against accepting files or friend request(s) from unknown people. While advising them not to engage in cyberbullying, Madam Kaki Onyame asked them not to tolerate cyberbullying either.
