Prince Essandoh, Senior Lead, IT Governance and Compliance at MTN Ghana in a presentation also advised the students to be extra vigilant on verification in order not to expose themselves, families, friends, and others for cyberattacks.

He added that they should change their passwords regularly. This, according to him, would make them safer and stronger against any cyberattack and its related activities.

Mr Essandoh noted that strengthening one’s social media account(s) would reduce the risk of being attacked digitally.

In this digital era where everyone is online, it is important for smartphone users to desist from downloading suspicious materials and images online.

He was quick to advise the students to desist from meeting people physically they have met on social media.

Some of these people, he warned, could be predators.

Furthermore, Mr Essandoh cautioned them against accepting files or friend request(s) from unknown people.

While advising them not to engage in cyberbullying, he asked them not to tolerate cyberbullying either.

On her part, Ms Angela Adu Ampofo, a Manager of Regulatory Affairs of MTN Ghana, also advised the students to refrain from posting their nude pictures and other pornographic materials online.

Vincent Esuah, Headmaster of the Osu Presby SHS while thanking MTN Ghana also appealed to companies, organisations and individuals to assist the school with computers to enable them to boost the teaching and learning of ICT in the school.

Instructively, Safer Internet Day (SID) is celebrated around the world in February of each year, with Safer Internet Centres, SID Committees and other supporters in each of the countries coming together to plan and organise events.

This year’s SID celebration – the 20th edition – took place today, Tuesday, 7 February 2023, with the slogan “Together for a better internet”.
