MTN Ghana Advises Hundreds of Osu Presby Senior High Students on Cybersecurity

Accra, Ghana//-MTN Ghana today sensitised hundreds of Osu Presbyterian Senior High School (SHS) on cybersecurity as part of its Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

Addressing the students, Madam Jacqueline Hanson-Kotei, Senior Manager in charge of Enterprise Information Security and Governance at MTN Ghana, explained that the roadshow aims to educate the students on how to stay safe on the internet.

She added that as young people who depend on the internet for information, it is more important than ever before to protect themselves against cyber threats or attacks by not exposing themselves to unknown people online.

Madam Hanson-Kotei advised the students to be extra vigilant on verification in order not to expose themselves, their families, and others to cyberattacks.

She further reminded them that they should change their passwords regularly. This, according to her, would make them safer and stronger against any cyberattack and its related activities.

She urged the students to refrain from posting their nude pictures and other pornographic materials online.

“It is a crime to do that”, she stated.

While advising the students to desist from meeting people physically they have met on social media.

Some of these people, according to her, could be predators.

Furthermore, she cautioned them against accepting files or friend requests (s) from unknown people. While advising them not to engage in cyberbullying, Madam Kaki Onyame asked them not to tolerate cyberbullying either.

Madam Bernice Badu-Marfoh, Enterprise Information Security Analyst at MTN Ghana in her presentation noted that strengthening one’s social media account(s) would reduce the risk of being attacked digitally.

In this digital era where everyone is online, smartphone users need to desist from downloading suspicious materials and images online.
