Experts Advise Individuals, Businesses to Set Up Their Cyber Hygiene Standards

Accra, Ghana, November 4, 2020//-The Enterprise Security Specialist at MTN Ghana , Mrs Jacqueline Hanson Kotei, has advised individuals and businesses to set up their cyber hygiene standards in the face of the ongoing devastating covid-19 pandemic.

Her admonition was supported by Mrs Awo Aidam Amenyah, Executive Director of Child Online Africa, a leading child centred NGO.

Mrs Kotei and Mrs Amenyah gave the advice during an online programme dubbed ‘MTN Bright Conversation on Cybersecurity’ held in Accra today.

Mrs Kotei in her presentation also advised them to be extra vigilant on verification in order not to expose themselves, staff, families and others for cyber attacks.

She added that “during this covid-19 era, kindly change your password(s) regularly”. This according to her would them safer and stronger against any cyber attack and its related activities.

Mrs Kotei who spoke eloquently on the subject matter, noted that strengthening ones social media account(s) would reduce the risk of being attacked digitally.

In this critical time of the pandemic where everyone is online, it is important for smarphone users to deceive from downloading suspicious materials and images online.

She used the occasion to dispel the erroneous impression that the ICT or IT departments of organsations are responsible for dealing with issues relating to cybersecurity.

However Mrs Kotei said: “Cybersecurity is everyone’s responsibility” in the organizations and beyond.

In this regard, cyber awareness according to her should be on top of the minds of every staff in the organizations.

On her part, Mrs Awo Aidam Amenyah who also eloquently on online child protection, appealed to parents not allow their children below ages of 13 to have email addresses.

By allowing them to have email addresses would expose them to all kinds of cyber threats including cyber bullying.
