Dr Joyce Aryee speaking at the Bright Conversations

Accra, Ghana//-Renowned Ghanaian communications expert, Dr Joyce Aryee today took turns at the MTN Ghana’s Bright Conversations with a call on Ghanaian youth to rededicate themselves to service of the country.

According to her, the youth need to love the country and all the positive things that make them Ghanaians.

The Bright Conversations session was held by the telecoms company to honour and celebrate the 75th milestone of Dr Aryee.

Sharing her life in public service, she appealed to the youth to join hands with leaders to help fix the country, saying: “We should all contribute our quotas to the growth and development of the country”.

Both fix the country and fix attitude are right

When asked by the moderator of the event Dzifa Bampoe of Media General on her take about the #fixthecountry and #fixyourattitude campaigners, Dr Aryee said both campaigners were right.

She questioned why Ghana still depends on its development partners for support after over 60 years of independence.

To this end, Dr Aryee who is also the Chief Executive Director of Salt and Light Ministries called for an increase in local production, stressing: “We need to grow our country by ensuring that we produce all our needs here”.

Illegal mining

Touching on the renewed crackdown on illegal mining activities in the country, she said illegal mining is a threat to the environment, water bodies, biodiversity, and human and aquatic lives.

Although the government has burnt several excavators seized at illegal mines, Dr Aryee urged the government to take hard decisions to ensure that the menace is dealt with mercilessly.

Dr Aryee who was the first female CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, insisted that: “Life without mining is impossible”. This is because all the machines, tools, utensils, ornaments, among others are made from minerals beneath the ground.

The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh and other key executives of the company as well as several people joined the about two-hour conversation online.
