Domestic Airlines Angry @ Ghana Airport Company

Kumasi AirportDOMESTIC airline operators have expressed angry at the Ghana Airport Company for the irregular closure of the Kumasi Airport, without due notification.

This follows the airport company’s upgrading of the Kumasi Airport tarmac and other facilities there.

On Wednesday this week, the airline operators grounded their planes as contractors working on the tarmac moved in unannounced, causing several flights to be delayed.

The situation according to the domestic airline operators, started on Friday October 17 and have expressed strong reservations about the conduct of the Ghana Airport Company.

The spokesperson of the domestic airline operators, James Eric Antwi who is also the CEO of Starbow airlines said,”the Kumasi airport is now being opened sometimes between  9:30 and 10:30 in the morning.”

He added that the three local airline companies including African World Airline , Starbow and Antrak Air are lamenting the loss of thousands of dollars in revenue due to the current challenges.

That has enormously affected business and more importantly disrupted travel arrangements of passengers, some of whom are connecting flights from Accra, the statement said.

“As stakeholders, we deserve some respect and notification before such move is initiated by your outfit,” the statement added.

“We are therefore using this medium to appeal and apologize to our esteemed passengers for this unfortunate situation which is not our making but the negligence of Ghana Airport Company Limited,” the statement concluded.
