London, UK – M-KOPA marked its 15th anniversary, having reached 10 million customers since its founding in 2011. The company also reported record revenue of $600 million for the 2025 financial year, an increase of 45% compared with 2024.

Of the 10 million customers reached since inception, three million customers joined M-KOPA during the past 12 months, reflecting continued demand across Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda and South Africa.

Revenue growth was matched by continued investment in the team. M-KOPA added approximately 200 new full-time roles – a 9% increase in headcount – while more than 5,000 new sales agents joined its distribution network.

“2025 was a record year for M-KOPA, with customer and revenue growth reaching new highs”, said Chief Financial Officer Faraimose Kutadzaushe. “We maintained profitability, while we focused on reinvesting as much as possible in our products, technology and distribution to continue to scale against a massive, underserved market of every day earners across Africa. We are still very early in our growth trajectory.”

M-KOPA employs over 2500 FTE and has created income generation opportunities for its nearly 50,000 sales agents. The company now onboards approximately 10,000 new customers per day, and receives micropayments at a rate of 23 times per second.

Increasingly, the majority of customers use more than one M-KOPA product over the course of a multi-year relationship, including smartphones, digital loans and electric mobility products.

Founded initially as a provider of financed solar systems, M-KOPA expanded into smartphone financing in 2020. Since then, it has recorded a five-year compound annual growth rate of 50%, and has been recognised as one of the largest and longest standing companies on the annual Financial Times Fastest Growing Companies in Africa list.

M-KOPA has also recently introduced electric vehicle financing, quickly becoming the early market leader with over 10,000 electric motorcycles and 3-wheelers on the roads of Kenya.

The company has expanded its investment into affordable, high quality smartphone design and manufacturing, including through technology acquisitions and the opening of Africa’s largest smartphone assembly factory in Kenya. Its latest generation of smartphones, the X4-series, launched in the market this month.
