Dr Abdul-Satarh Quarshie Adonoo, Ayawaso Central NDC aspirant

Accra, Ghana, July 19, 2019//-Dr Abdul-Satarh Quarshie Adonoo, front-runner for the 2020 Parliamentary ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), today submitted his nomination forms at the party’s Ayawaso Central Constituency office, with a pledge to break the governing New Patriotic Party’s monopoly in the constituency.

Statistically, parliamentary results in Ayawaso Central Constituency for the past 22 years has always favoured the New Patriotic Party (NPP) though a closer look at the demography of the constituency, define that, it is a cosmopolitan one, with Ewes, Muslims (Zongo caucus), Akans,  and Gas which  makes it  look like an NDC stronghold but  alas!

However Dr Adonoo who is tipped to wrestle with Henry Quartey, the incumbent NPP Member of Parliament (MP) and Deputy Minister of Interior for the seat, today began the journey.

Accompanied by throng of supporters and well-wishers who were clad in her campaign T-shirts, Dr Adonoo affectionately called VQ is seen by many as winsome answer to breaking the NPP’s monopoly in the constituency.

In his own words: “Breaking the NPP’s over 20 years political monopoly is a herculean task which requires all hands on deck to consolidate the gains made by our forebears in this struggle”.

To this end, he paid glowing tributes to H.E Said Sinare, Hon. Amon Quartey, Hajia Marian Sinare, Dr. Ofei Agyeman, and my brother and friend Hon. William Affum Ani-Adjei for the various roles they have played in the struggle to annex the parliamentary seat from the NPP.

He added: “To the various leaderships and entire membership, I acknowledge and duly recognize your hard work for how far we have come as a constituency”.

Dr Adonoo continues: “As we prepare towards the crucial 2020 general elections, the NDC needs to put up a tried and tested candidate who understands the nitty-gritty of Ayawaso Central politics to break the NPP’s dominance and win the parliamentary seat for the great NDC party”.

Despite the fact that the NDC has not been able to annex the parliamentary seat in previous attempts does not in any way mean the party is not worth winning it.

Dr Adonoo stressed: “We can collectively break the NPP’s monopoly by presenting a leading architect of the constituency in the person of Victor Abdul-Satarh Quarshie Adonoo, a man who has what it takes to extend the NDC’s influence beyond the borders of the Ayawaso Central constituency to snatch the seat for the NDC party.

This is our seat! It’s imperative we take collective action and wrestle the seat from the NPP.

Dr Adonoo who is going into the NDC primaries contest with three other candidates, said: “It is in light of the above that I have decided to put up myself and contest the Ayawaso Central NDC primaries when the party opens nomination in the coming months”.
