2021 AFCON: Iheanacho Scores Stunner as Nigeria Beat Egypt

Super Eagles of Nigeria

Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho scored a stunning first-half goal to power Nigeria to an impressive victory over Egypt in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Tuesday’s game between two Group D heavyweights saw Nigeria come up tops with the seven-time champions struggling to impose themselves.

Iheanacho broke the deadlock in superb fashion as he found the top corner with a strike from the edge of the box.

The goal was a reward for Nigeria’s relentless pressure led by FC Nantes winger Moses Simon whose pace and trickery saw him create several opportunities.

He played a role in the goal as his cross was poorly cleared by the Egyptians, allowing Joe Aribo to set up Iheanacho to score.

Nigeria could have added to their tally but wasted a hatful of opportunities against a disappointing Egypt side containing captain Mohamed Salah.

Towards the end of the game, Egyptian shot-stopper Mohamed El Shenawi made some key saves to prevent a big scoreline.

The result means the Super Eagles provisionally top group D, whilst Carlos Quieroz’s Egypt have it all to do in their final two group games.
