
Accra, November 3, 2017//-Over a thousand youth from Labone Senior High School, Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) and the general public filled the school’s Assembly Hall to participate in WeltFilme’s supported Premier organized by Youth Bridge Foundation (YBF).
The event which, commences YBF/WeltFilme’s Mobile Cinema Tour inGreater Accra, Central, Eastern, Western and Northern regions of Ghanashowed participants four short films produced by selected Welt Filme trained youth from Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone to inform, educate and inspire young people as well as advocatemeaningful youth development on the continent.
The Coordinator of the Mobile Cinema Tour, Mr Samuel Asamoah, on behalf of the Executive Director of YBF, Mr. Seth Oteng, saidthe project is set to create nation-wide awareness on the situation of young people using the films as case studies; help foster national discourse among the youth and key stakeholders on the challenges facing the youth; and, empower young people to overcome their challenges.
According to him, the project will distribute 1,150 DVD copies of the films among young people, government institutions, CSOs, traditional and district authorities and all relevant stakeholders in Ghana.
On her part, Sarah Heinlin, a volunteer from YMCA, on behalf of the Executive Director, expressed the readiness of YMCA to host similar project “ALL ON BOARD” in Ghana in March 2018.
She commended Welt Filme and YBF for highlighting key issues that affect young people in Africa, and especially, for creating a learning platform for such productive youth engagement.
The movies premiered include Picturing My Life, Mayilla Stony Path, Dansa andDigging for a New Life. After watching the movies, the excited participants engaged to highlight the inherent lessons and discussion points in the movies.
Picturing My Lifeempowered young female participants to pursue their chosen career irrespective of the challenges they encounter in their pursuit. Dansa called on families to support the chosen careers of their children and not force them to do what they have no interest in. Mayilla Stony Path also taught the youth the essence of resilience, and, they learnt why and how not to give up on their education even in the midst of adversities.
Students advised themselves to avoid bad companies and associate themselves with individuals and groups that will have good influence on their personal development from Digging for a New Life. It cautions young participants against stealing, smoking, drinking and other vices.
YBF is a Non- Governmental youth development advocate dedicated to youth empowerment with a passion of nurturing the next generation of African Leaders and Welt Filme is a Berlin based nonprofit organization set up to intensify the dialogue between the northern and southern world using the medium film.
