Ghana Black Stars are one point from qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup following their big win over the Central African Republic (CAR).
Three second-half goals saw the Black Stars record a 5-0 win in Morocco to maintain their three-point lead at the top of Group I.
Salisu should have scored in the 15th minute when he connected with Mohammed Kudus’ cross from a corner kick, but the defender headed wide.
There was no denying the Monaco centre-back five minutes later as he opened the scoring for Ghana, heading home a corner from Mohammed Kudus.
Kwasi Sibo was close to his first goal for the Black Stars when he charged forward, but his effort was thwarted by the CAR defence.
Alexander Djiku was also close to doubling the lead before the break, but the centre-back couldn’t get the effort low enough to beat the goalkeeper.
The Black Stars went into the break with Salisu’s header separating the two teams.
Ghana continued from where they left off after the recess, but Sibo’s header from a set piece was nowhere near troubling the CAR goalkeeper.
Minutes later, Thomas Partey was on the scoresheet. The Villarreal midfielder latched onto a pass from captain Jordan Ayew before unleashing a shot past the goalkeeper to double Ghana’s advantage.
CAR’s first real effort came in the 64th minute of the game, but even that was not enough to get Benjamin Asare worried in Ghana’s goal.
Jordan Ayew followed up his assist to Partey with another one for Alexander Djiku to make it 3-0 before getting on the scoresheet himself to make it 4-0.
With three minutes away from full-time, substitutes Joseph Paintsil and Kamaldeen Sulemana combined to make it five for Otto Addo’s side.
With a huge win over CAR, the Black Stars are just a point away from making the global showpiece. Myjoyonline
