UBA Ghana Records Significant Transactions on Leo Since May 2020

Accra, Ghana//-United Bank for Africa (UBA) Ghana, subsidiary of UBA Plc has recorded significant transactions on its virtual banker, Leo in nearly 20 and half months after its launch.

 According to the latest data from the bank, the total value of transaction on the Leo app reached over GH¢30.2 million from 1st May, 2020 to 13th January, 2022. While the number of transactions stood at 51,446 in the period under review.

Also, 76,231 people have so far subscribed to Leo which is the UBA’s pioneer Artificial Intelligence-based (AI) virtual conversational banking platform, which provides seamless banking services to customers.

Out of this huge number, 43,370 have opened new accounts via the Leo app which was launched successfully in UBA Ghana in May 2020. It has since recorded significant accounts acquisition and increased transaction volumes.

Since the outbreak of the deadly covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, individuals and businesses in Ghana have been using various electronic platforms including Leo for banking, customer engagement, among others. So, Leo was introduced at the time that it was needed the most.

Leo which is marking its fourth anniversary at the UBA Plc has proven to be the easiest and reliable artificial intelligence (AI) Chatbot, serving an ever-increasing number of customers who now have less transaction hassles to worry about.

In just four years, Leo’s landmark achievements have been indeed overwhelming, covering 20 African countries as well as receiving over 10 prestigious awards globally, according to officials of the bank.

When asked after four years, what next, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications of UBA Ghana, Henry Nii Dottey,, said more lifestyle services and other banking services would be introduced to make Leo a one-stop solution for all banking and lifestyle needs.

He added that Leo would also be introduced on other social media platforms like Instagram and Google Business Chat, among others.

Leo is currently available on Facebook, Whatsapp messenger and Apple Business Chat (iMessage). It has become the lifestyle partner to the bank’s youthful customers, exceeding the boundaries of traditional banking.

To this end, UBA Ghana is committed to making Leo and other virtual channels simple, functional, reliable and available to serve its customers 24/7, according to senior officials of the bank.
