Yaw Asante, Brong Ahafo Regional Planning Officer of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) of Ghana has cautioned drivers to be wary of bad weather conditions as Christmas approached.
He reminded drivers that with the onset of the harmattan, the weather would not be favourable for driving and entreated them to always check their lighting systems before they set-off for their journeys.
Mr Asante gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), after he addressed the opening session of a training programme at Abesim, near Sunyani, at the weekend.

The 80 participants comprised sales representatives, mechanics, and engineers. They were taken through road safety regulations, customer service and other marketing strategies.
Mr Asante explained that the Christmas festivities were always noted for accident fatalities because some drivers drove carelessly, especially at night and dawn.
He noted that many drivers failed to observe the unstable weather pattern associated with the harmattan, saying it sometimes becomes difficult to identify road signs in poor weather.
Mr Asante said accident reports in the Region for the year were very bad, though the Commission had intensified road safety education.
He, therefore, called on passengers to be responsive and ensure that drivers drove within required speed limits.
Mr Mandela Fayiri, Chief Operations Officer of NEM, said the company offered various car maintenance services, including roadside breakdown rescue services, and advised individual car owners and companies to register with it.
