Accra, Ghana//-The ultramodern library funded by the MTN Ghana Foundation at the Ebenezer Senior High School (SHS) has recorded historic attendance just two years after opening to students and the general public.

The library dubbed Dansoman Multipurpose Library according to its head, Rejoice Akosua Adjei, the library recorded over 20,000 attendances during the period.

This is historic, adding that the GHS770,000 library facility which was commissioned and handed over to the Ghana Library Authority in November 2020 registered 11,000 attendances in 2021 alone.

Madam Akosua Adjei disclosed this when staff of the MTN Ghana Foundation led by the Senior Manager for Sustainability and Social Impact, Robert Kuzoe paid an inspection visit to the facility.

Massive impact

“Looking at these numbers recorded by the library, I can confidently say that the facility is making a massive impact on the lives of the students and children from the Dansoman community who visit it”, she said.

Madam Akosua Adjei used the occasion to thank MTN Ghana Foundation which is the corporate social responsibility wing of MTN Ghana and urged the officials of the telecoms company to visit them regularly to check on the facility.

In her words: “MTN has helped us a lot. I think in all they should just be checking up on us as they already care.

They should continue coming around to check on us so that in case of any challenge they can also assist us”.

Appeal

Madam Akosua Adjei appealed to other companies, institutions and individuals to help the facility with more books as demand for books is high.

“We are appealing for more books. In fact, we have written to some institutions for books because day in and day out the number keeps going up and the need for books always comes in although the National Library Authority provides us with books”, she passionately stated.

Good care of the facility

After interacting with the workers and the students at the library, Mr Kuzoe said: “I’m impressed with how the facility has been taken care of.

Maintenance culture is an issue in Ghana and in other facilities when you go and visit sometimes they are not in good shape and MTN will have to invest another money to actually put it in a good place.

As you can see this facility looks as if it was handed over today but this was handed over in 2020”.

The ultramodern library facility comprises a reception area, a storeroom, a 100-seater conventional library area, a 20-seater ICT center, a world class Robotics lab capable of training students, two offices, and restrooms.
