Digital Consultant for MTN Ghana, Dario Bianchie

Accra, Ghana, June 1, 2020//-The ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has reinforced the need for governments and businesses in Africa to digitize.

It is the only means that governments and businesses on the African continent in this period of social distancing can still delivery services to the people with ease.

The Digital Consultant for MTN Ghana, Dario Bianchie who said this during Africa Digital Festival Webinar on the theme ‘Building A Contactless Economy Beyond Covid-19’, explained that digital world is critical to the socio-economic development of the continent and its businesses.

To this end, Mr Bianchie called on the governments to educate people and businesses at all levels on the need to embrace the new ways of doing business in the region.

“The government should make small businesses understand the power of doing digital business and why it will be good to go into e-commerce”, he added.

Although the pandemic is a huge problem for both large and small businesses, it is also an opportunity for them to use digital platforms or channels to grow their businesses.

“I think we need to use the next few months to really accelerate any move to digital and I strongly believe that especially in Ghana e-commerce is one of the main opportunities”, Mr Bianchi told his online audiences.

He was confident that in the near future people could go to the Makola market in Accra, Ghana and pay for everything with their mobile money service(s).

Similar thing could happen in other parts of Africa with the right investment and the right leadership, according to him.

Mr Bianchie therefore called on the various governments on the continent to do more by investment in technologies to enable them catch up with the advanced world.

“At MTN Ghana, we are doing a lot and we want to do much more in the digitization approach”.

Not only in Ghana but as MTN Group, we have a clear strategy to become a digital operator with the aim of providing great service in terms of data and voice but at the same time making sure we provide new services that will promote the use of digital services, Mr Bianchie emphasized.
