Accra, September 23, 2017//-The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana , Ebenezer Asante, has been adjudged the Marketing  Man of the Year 2016 at the 28th National Marketing Performance Awards.

The awards organised by the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) was held on Saturday 23 September, 2017 at the State Banquet Hall in Accra.

Mr Asante was celebrated for his extraordinary leadership in 2016 which did not only solidify the MTN Ghana brand in the country but also helped the company chalked numerous successes during the year under review.

He received a plaque and a citation.

MTN Ghana also took home two awards namely, Telecom Company of the Year, and Marketing Oriented Company of the Year awards.

The CIMG 2016 event saw some 35 awards handed to organisations and individuals for excellence and extraordinary work done in the year.

Recently, Mr Asante was also adjudged the overall CEO of the Year in Africa’s telecommunication industry at the AfricaCom Awards.

AfricaCom is Africa’s most prominent annual industry awards for the telecommunications and information technology sector. This award comes barely a month after he was adjudged the Best CEO in the MTN Group.

Mr Twum Asante is the first Ghanaian CEO of MTN Ghana.  He is credited for the company’s consistent growth in the market share and entrenched leadership in the telecommunication industry.

Recently, MTN Ghana subscriber base saw a 3% growth to over 18 million, shooting its total market share to almost 50 per cent, and mobile data market share to over 60 per cent.

MTN Ghana currently has over 18 million subscribers and was the first telecoms operator to acquire a 4G LTE license at a cost of US$67.5million.

Under his watch, MTN Ghana commercially launched its 4G LTE services on 21st June 2016 in all 10 regions of Ghana after it acquired the license in December 2015.

Last year, MTN spent $96 million on network and information systems including the rollout of the 4G network.

MTN Ghana under his leadership has won several other prestigious awards. The MTN Ghana’s Finance Team swept three awards at the CFOs Awards organized by Instinct Waves. In addition, at the Advertising Association of Ghana’s Gong Gong Awards, four of MTN Ghana’s creative campaigns won prestigious awards.

Other awards the company has received this year include the GITTA Best Customer Service of the Year Award for the third consecutive time and three prestigious Institute of Public Relations awards. MTN also recently won the Engineering Business Management award in recognition of its 4G LTE project.
