MTN Ghana Assures Persons with Disabilities

MTN logoAccra, June 30, 2017//-MTN Ghana has assured the People with disabilities (PWDs) that it would never discriminate against them when they are seeking for employment at the company.

The Head of Human Resource at MTN Ghana, Amma Benneh-Amponsah gave the assurance at the maiden career fair of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations.

She stated: “We are a very inclusive organization, we believe in diversity and inclusiveness for us is getting the right talents onboard whether they are able-bodied or disabled”.

“We are here to hire the right talents into MTN; it’s not about being able bodied or disabled, it’s about being able to do the job, do it well”, Mrs. Benneh-Amponsah emphasised.

The fair was organised by the Ghana Federation of Disability Organization (GFD) and supported by MTN Ghana. The career fair aimed among others to promote inclusion and diversity in the work space in the country.

Also, the fair served as a pre-screening stage, helping both the interviewee and hiring company to assess the potential match of candidate to a corporation within the shortest possible time.

Mrs  Benneh-Amponsah noted that the company’s decision to participate in the career fair is in tandem with the MTN Foundation’s commitment to economically empower the less privileged persons in Ghanaian communities.

According to her, supporting the physically challenged was particularly critical because the disabled have a lot of potential if given the opportunity and the tools.

In his address, Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia said the government was looking into tapping the talents of the about three million disabled people living in the country.

The National President of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organization (GFD), Yaw Ofori Debra called on the government to roll-out a disability employment policy to ensure that people with disability (PWD) have equal access to the job market.

He encouraged the private sectors to employ PWDs instead of the occasional donations to the disability groups.

Mr Debra used the occasion to thank management of MTN Ghana for their continuous support.

The career fair was themed ‘Employing Persons with Disabilities to Promote Inclusive and Diversity in the Work Space- the Role of Policy Makers and Employers’.
