Accra, Ghana// – MobileMoney LTD (MoMo from MTN) has assured that its MoMo platform on the MTN network is safe and secure, urging the public to disregard social media untrue messages.
The company maintained that there is nothing wrong with the platform. Recently social media messages popped up claiming that MTN systems have been compromised due to a cybersecurity incident, advising customers to withdraw their funds.
The company in a press release issued by Adwoa Wiafe Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, urged Ghanaians and all MoMo users to disregard those falsehood and misleading messages.
“We want to clarify that this information is completely misleading, untrue and, in some instances, potentially mischievous.
We assure all our valued customers that the cybersecurity incident has not impacted on the operation or security of our mobile money systems”, the release said.
“No customers have lost any of their money as a result of the cybersecurity incident; our mobile money platform remains safe and secure, and customer funds are protected”.
MobileMoney LTD operates with robust security protocols and continuously monitors our environment to enhance system integrity, the release said.
The MoMo platform utilises industry-leading security measures, including end-to-end encryption, multi-factor authentication, and ongoing monitoring to detect and prevent fraudulent activity.
We also collaborate closely with regulatory authorities, cybersecurity experts, and partner institutions to uphold the highest safety standards. It added.
“We appreciate our customers’ concerns and want to reaffirm our commitment to the safety of mobile money services. We urge customers and the public to rely on official channels of MobileMoney LTD and MTN Ghana for authentic and accurate information.
We also remind our valued customers to remain vigilant and avoid disclosing sensitive information such as passwords, PINs, and OTPs via phone, text, messages, or emails”.
