Less Than one Week to enter the 2016 Zayed Future Energy Prize

WARDSThere is less than one week to go before submissions close for the 2016 edition of the Zayed Future Energy Prize with entries open until 30 June.

 The Prize rewards and recognises individuals, organisations and schools that are dedicated to solutions that will meet the challenges of climate change, energy security and the environment.

The winner of the 2015 Small and Medium Enterprise category was Nairobi-based M-KOPA Solar giving credence to the belief that Africa is emerging as one of the most exciting spaces in the renewable and sustainable energy arena, holding the potential to make a difference globally.

Says Jesse Moore, CEO of M-KOPA, “It took us two years to connect our first 100,000 homes and just eight months to connect our second 100,000 homes. We are pushing hard to grow even faster and reach our goal of one million homes by the end of 2017.”

There are five categories: Large Corporation (Recognition award), Small and Medium Enterprise (US$ 1.5 million), Non-Profit Organisation (US$ 1.5 million), Lifetime Achievement (US$ 500,000) and an African winner of the Global High Schools category (US$100,000).

The Zayed Future Energy Prize honors the environmental legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE.
