Laud Inaugural World Bank–UG Research Colloquium, Push For Expansion

Accra, Ghana//-Participants at the maiden edition of the World Bank–University of Ghana Graduate Student Research Colloquium have described the event as inspiring and beneficial, with many saying the feedback they received would shape their work.

The students thanked the organisers for launching the program and said they were delighted to have their papers selected for presentation.

They also expressed appreciation to the discussants for offering diverse perspectives that opened up new angles for strengthening their research.

For many, the value of the colloquium started from the opening remarks. Participants said the sessions underscored the resilience required to produce credible research and gave them practical insight into bridging academia and policy.

Recommendations

The student participants suggested extending the next edition to two or three days to give more students the chance to present their work.

They also called for structured mentorship with discussants to deepen insight and build research capacity over time.

Another proposal was to include a day-long immersion with World Bank staff, allowing students to experience firsthand what it is like to work at the institution.

The feedback points to strong demand for the colloquium to become a regular platform for connecting graduate research with real-world development practice.
