The Western Regional Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), under the leadership of its President, Desmond Cudjoe, has organised the Western Regional Media and Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Awards to celebrate excellence in journalism and recognise contributions to the development of the region.
The awards ceremony was held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, under the theme “Reporting Progress, Investing in People.”
The event brought together journalists, media practitioners, corporate institutions, government representatives and other stakeholders to celebrate outstanding journalism and corporate social investment initiatives that are making a difference in communities across the Western Region.
Journalists who excelled in various categories were honoured for their commitment to professional journalism, impactful reporting and their contribution to informing the public and promoting development.
As part of the recognition, all award recipients received citations and laptops as prizes for their outstanding work.
The organisers said the awards were designed not only to celebrate excellence but also to encourage journalists to continue producing credible, impactful and development-oriented stories that address issues affecting communities.
A special highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of three veteran journalists for their longstanding contribution to journalism and the development of the Western Region.
The three experienced media practitioners were honoured for their years of service and dedication to the profession, as well as their role in shaping journalism and contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.
The GJA Western Regional Chapter said recognising the veteran journalists was important in preserving the history and legacy of journalism while inspiring younger practitioners to uphold the values of professionalism, integrity and public service.
The theme of the awards, “Reporting Progress, Investing in People,” underscored the critical role of the media in highlighting development achievements while also holding duty-bearers and institutions accountable.
It also drew attention to the importance of corporate social investment in improving the lives of people through interventions in areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, skills development and livelihoods.
The GJA Western Regional Chapter expressed appreciation to all stakeholders, sponsors, corporate institutions and media practitioners who supported the initiative.
