Accra, Ghana, July 20, 2018//-The police administration has issued a stern warning to all police officers to desist from engaging in any act that infringes on the human rights of citizens in the country.
The warning comes on the back of a video that has gone viral with a police officer on duty at Midland Savings and Loans brutalising a woman carrying a two months old baby in the banking hall.
The woman is said to have gone to the savings and loans company to withdraw 270 cedis on Thursday but when the bank was not willing to give her the money, she insisted on getting her money after several days of rejection and hours of waiting on the said day.
The said police officer has since been arrested on the directive of the Inspector General of Police on Friday.
He has been identified as Lance Corporal Godzi Frederick Amanor but popularly known among his colleagues as Skalla with service number No. 50260.
“He is stationed at Accra Regional Police Operations Unit. The Administration has already commenced investigation into his conduct,” the police said in a statement on Friday, “In addition, the Inspector-General of Police has directed the Officer’s immediate arrest for criminal processes to begin.”
DSP Mrs. Sheilla Kessie Abayie-Buckman, Director of Public Affairs, who signed the statement noted that the police administration condemns the behaviour of the officer as being contrary to professionalism and tenets of the “ongoing Police Transformation Programme”.
The statement further noted that “Following this conduct, the Police Administration has issued a stem warning to all Police Officers, reminding them to desist from any such human rights abuses and misconducts”
The police has assured the public that the outcome of investigation into the officer’s conduct shall be published.
