Ghana: Newmont Donates Vehicle to Strengthen Security Operations in Tano North

Accra, Ghana// – Newmont’s Ahafo North Mine has donated a brand-new Toyota Hilux pick-up valued at GHS 510,967 to the Ghana Police Service to support security operations within the Tano North Municipality in the Ahafo Region.

The donation follows separate requests from the Duayaw Nkwanta Divisional Police Headquarters and the Tano North Municipal Assembly for a vehicle to support municipal security services.

The vehicle is expected to enhance the mobility and responsiveness of police personnel serving communities within the municipality.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Charles Bissue, General Manager of the Ahafo North mine, said the donation reflects Newmont’s commitment to supporting the security and wellbeing of its host communities through collaboration with state institutions and other partners.

“Safety and security are essential to the economic development and social wellbeing of every community,  and this donation is meant to augment the logistical requirements of the police at the municipal level, and help them to effectively carry out their mandate of protecting the citizenry.”

Receiving the vehicle on behalf of the Ghana Police Service and the Municipal Assembly, Hon. Pius Opoku, the Tano North Municipal Chief Executive, expressed appreciation to Newmont for the support and highlighted the vehicle’s importance to security operations within the municipality.

“We are grateful to Newmont for this timely and generous support, which will significantly enhance the operational capacity of the Tano North Police, improve mobility, and strengthen their ability to respond promptly to security needs within the Tano North Municipality and surrounding communities. This partnership demonstrates the value of collaboration in creating safer communities for everyone.”

The handover ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ahafo Regional Police Command, the Duayaw Nkwanta Divisional Police Headquarters, the Tano North Municipal Assembly, other government officials and Newmont employees.
