
Accra, Ghana//-MobileMoney Limited, the MTN Ghana subsidiary responsible for mobile financial services, has presented awards to its outstanding mobile financial services’ agents at the 2022 Mobile Money (MoMo) Agents and Merchants Awards Night in Accra.
The awards night was held on Friday, 23 December 2022 to celebrate MoMo agents, merchants and distributors in the South East Business District of MTN Ghana, comprising Greater Accra, Eastern, Volta, and Oti regions who have demonstrated high levels of professionalism in executing their duties in providing mobile financial services to their customers in the year 2022.
400 agents, 75 merchants and 50 mobile agents received awards in the night, while one thousand MoMo agents, 125 merchants and 200 mobile agents received theirs at separate locations nationwide.
Over the last few weeks, management of the company has been in Kumasi to reward vendors from the regions of the North, Bono, Bono East, Ahafo and Ashanti regions.
They were also in Takoradi too to undertake the same exercise, recognising the work of their vendors (agents, merchants, and mobile agents) following an assessment of their work from January to October 2022.
At yesterday’s awards night, a Tema-based My Kids Pride Links Limited emerged the Overall Best Mobile Money Agent of the Year 2022. The company won a brand-new motorbike, GHC50,000 electronic cash, certificate of honour and other prizes.
Other top performing vendors received awards including motorbikes, Smart TVs, Laptops, CCTV Cameras, among others.
The rest of the award winners will be presented with their prizes during the company’s regional awards events.
Criteria for the selection
Criteria for the selection of winners included scanning for agents who have not indulged in fraudulent activities, agents who exhibit and provide customers with a good experience among others.
Speaking at the awards night, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney Limited, Shaibu Haruna, said, the far-reaching results and success of the MoMo service have been championed by three categories of people- agents, merchants and MobileMoney agents.
“With support from over 276,000 agent points across all 16 regions of the country, our numerous customers nationwide can make transactions wherever and whenever they need to”, he said.

Mr Haruna added: “Our over 240,000 merchants who accept MoMo for payments for goods and services have continued to support us towards our commitment to driving a cash-lite economy.
Currently, our MoMo subscribers stand at 12.6 million due to the tireless efforts of mobile agents who travel the length and breadth of Ghana, growing our subscriber base”.
It is in recognition of their critical contributions that they were at the plush Movenpick Hotel to honour and thank them all.
Mr Haruna acknowledged: “Today’s event is very important because of the unique challenges the industry has gone through this year.
It has been a challenging year with the introduction of e-levy, the challenges our customers have had with accessing their MoMo wallets during the SIM barring exercise and the challenging economic environment we find ourselves in”.
These issues put a lot of pressure on the entire business. However, while we continue to face these challenges, we enthusiastically serve our customers with joy and pride”.
It is therefore very critical that we celebrate those who through the challenges are still able to achieve set targets without resting on their oars, according to him.

Overall winner grateful
The CEO of My Kids Pride Links Limited, Ms Dorcas Abena Gyabea, whose company won the overall award, thanked MobileMoney Limited for the honour and promised to do more next year.
Bottom line
Since 2014, the company has recognized the hard work and significant contributions of over thousands of agents, merchants and mobile agents which have given meaning to the digitization and cash-lite agenda.
MobileMoney Limited is the largest Mobile Money service provider in the country. It currently controls more than 70% of the country’s MoMo market.
Today, there are about six major categories of financial transactions on the MTN MoMo platform under which there are other sub – services.
On MoMo today, customers are not just sending and receiving money or paying bills, MoMo is now used for Saving, Investing, Payments, Shopping, Insurance and Loan acquisition.
The company has also partnered with several organizations to rollout key social empowerment projects over the decade including helping digitize the Agriculture Value Chain through mAgric, POS in partnership with several banks and scaling up female participation within the MoMo merchant space.
