Ghana: MobileMoney Limited Awards Outstanding MoMo Agents, Merchants

Accra, Ghana//-MobileMoney Limited, the MTN Ghana subsidiary responsible for mobile financial services, has presented awards to its outstanding mobile financial services agents and merchants at the 2023 National Mobile Money (MoMo) Agents and Merchants Awards in Accra.

The awards night was held on Friday, 15 December 2023 to celebrate MoMo agents and merchants in all the 16 regions of Ghana who have demonstrated high levels of professionalism in executing their duties in providing mobile financial services to their customers in the year 2023.

A total of 44 awards were presented in six different categories namely best MoMo agents for all 16 regions, best merchants for all the 16 regions, regional top MoMo agents to deserving MoMo businesses.

Key stakeholders who have played divest roles in the MoMo environment such as fintech partners, bank partners and key innovations were also awarded. They took home plaques.

Each of the award winners from the 16 regions of the country received Ghs10,000 e-cash and plaques, among others.

Overall best MoMo agent as well as overall best merchant were awarded.

At yesterday’s awards night, Tema-based My Kids Pride Links Limited topped the Greater Accra Region and also emerged as the Overall Best Mobile Money Agent of the Year 2023 and received Ghs50,000.

The same company last won Overall Best Mobile Money Agent of the Year 2022. The Overall Best Merchant of the Year 2023 went to Kumasi-based J. Obeng Ventures in the Ashanti Region and also received Ghs50,000.

What CEO says 

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MobileMoney Limited, Shaibu Haruna said: “We are excited to have you here as we run up the year’s activities by recognising your enormous contribution towards achieving financial inclusion in Ghana.

2023 has been a very challenging but exciting year for our industry, with a lot of great moments and learnings as well as.

“Thanks to the resilience and commitment of each player in the industry. We continue to see encouraging growth in our active users, transaction volumes, transaction value and an increasing adoption of advanced services on our platform. And we say a big thank you for making this possible”, he said.

Mr Haruna expressed their gratitude to all their customers, partners, regulator (Bank of Ghana) and all the stakeholders for supporting the MoMo journey so far.

“MML and MTN Ghana remain committed to enabling a dynamic and inclusive digital area in the country”, he assured.

The CEO of My Kids Pride Links Limited, Ms Dorcas Abena Gyabea, whose company won the overall award, thanked MobileMoney Limited for the honour and promised to do more next year.

Bottom line

Since 2014, the company has recognized the hard work and significant contributions of thousands of agents, merchants and mobile agents which have given meaning to the digitization and cash-lite agenda.

MobileMoney Limited is the largest Mobile Money service provider in the country. It currently controls more than 70% of the country’s MoMo market.

Today, there are about six major categories of financial transactions on the MTN MoMo platform under which there are other sub–services.

On MoMo today, customers are not just sending and receiving money or paying bills, MoMo is now used for Saving, Investing, Payments, Shopping, Insurance and Loan acquisition.

The company has also partnered with several organizations to roll out key social empowerment projects over the decade including helping digitize the Agriculture Value Chain through mAgric, POS in partnership with several banks and scaling up female participation within the MoMo merchant space.

Instructively, MobileMoney Limited continues to spearhead innovations and initiatives that facilitate the growth of the mobile financial services sector which provides customers with fast, simple, convenient, secure, and affordable ways of transferring money, making payments, and doing other transactions using just a mobile phone.
