Ghana: India Defends Recent Changes in Kashimir and Ladakh Regions

Accra, Ghana, August 15, 2019//-Indians and Ghanaians on Thursday (today) converged at the Residence of the India High Commissioner in Accra to mark the 73rd Independence anniversary of India, in which the country defended its recent decision to strip the disputed Jammu- Kashmir and Ladakh regions of the statehood and special constitutional provisions.

Addressing a large Indian community in Ghana, Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, Birender Singh Yadav, who hoisted the Flag of India and later read a speech on behalf of the President of India, H.E Sri Ram Nath Kovind stated: “I am confident that the recent changes made in Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh would be of immense benefit to those regions”.

He continued: “They will enable the people to access and enjoy the same rights, same privileges and same facilities as their fellow citizens in the rest of the country”.

These  Mr Kovind mentioned include progressive, egalitarian laws and provisions related to the Right to Education; accessing public information through the Right to Information; reservations in education and employment and other facilities for traditionally deprived communities; and justice for our daughters by abolishing unequal practices such as instant triple ‘talaq’.
