Ghana: Fuel Prices to Drop by GHC1 Per Litre in the Coming Days

Fuel prices in Ghana could be reduced by as much as 1 cedi per litre in the coming days, according to 3Business sources within the Finance and Energy ministries.

The expected drop follows a directive by President John Dramani Mahama to review taxes and levies on petroleum products, as consumers face rising costs at the pumps.

Fuel prices have increased sharply in recent weeks, driven by higher global crude oil prices and a weakening local currency, which have raised the cost of imports.

Petrol prices have risen from around 10 cedis per litre to more than 13 cedis, while diesel is selling for about 17 cedis per litre.

The government is now considering measures to ease the pressure, including the possible suspension of some taxes and levies within the petroleum price structure.

A group of civil society organisations has also called for deeper cuts, proposing a reduction of 1 cedi 65 pesewas in the current price build-up.

They say the move would provide relief to households and businesses, and could be supported by increased revenues from crude oil production and exports.

Sources say an official announcement on the measures is expected as early as April 15, with consumers likely to see a reduction of up to 1 cedi per litre, although details of the specific levies to be affected remain unclear.

The government has yet to formally confirm the changes, as discussions continue how best to cushion consumers while managing the impact on public finances. 3news
