Ghana: Court Issues Bench Warrant for the Arrest of KNUST SRC President’s Beaters

Ghana, October 10, 2019//-The Asokore Mampong District Court in the Ashanti Region has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of three out of five alumni of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) who allegedly assaulted the KNUST SRC president, Adu-Baah Charles.

They are Anokye Bernard ( National Service Personnel – DVLA Accra Headquarters), Adongo Kennedy ( National Service Personnel – Ghana Revenue Authority) and Stephen Oppong Nkrumah ( National Service Personnel – Forestry Commission, Accra).

The culprits allegedly attacked the SRC president at Kotei close to the university on Sunday, September 29, 2019.

The warrant was issued after the prosecutor in the case, Edward Kwame Adade told the court that they cannot trace those accused persons, and however, filed application for a bench warrant for their arrest.

Meanwhile, two suspects who have been arrested appeared before the court on Tuesday, October 8, 2019.

Owusu Afriyie Godfred, and Antwi Samuel Poakwa (Level 400 student) were charged with conspiracy to commit assault and assault.

Their counsel, Benjamin D. Andoh, filed an application for bail which was granted by the court.

The accused persons were granted to a bail sum of GH¢10,000 with a surety each.

They are to reappear before the court, presided over by Her Worship Portia Molly Anafo-Salia on October 24, 2019.

According to lawyer for the accused persons, Benjamin D. Andoh they are considering out of court settlement.

“Whilst they are on bail we are going to make frantic efforts to reach the complainant and see whether we can promote reconciliation among them,” he said.

Sources gathered by Focus news reveals that these alleged persons who assaulted the KNUST SRC president did so after the president refused to settle them with money after winning the elections.

According to the culprits, the president failed to provide the money and some items they demanded to ‘’pacify the gods’’, adding that they were disappointed in him.
