I will ensure that your concerns are addressed immediately – Attorney-General assures JUSAG
The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has met with the national leadership of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) to listen to their concerns and explore ways of resolving the ongoing strike action by judicial service staff.
The meeting provided an opportunity for JUSAG to present in detail the issues that led to the industrial action and to discuss pathways for an amicable resolution in the interest of justice delivery and the public.
The Attorney-General assured the leadership of his commitment to ensuring that their legitimate concerns are addressed.
“As you may be aware, I was the one who prepared and got C.I. 141 — Judicial Service Terms and Conditions Regulations, 2025 — expeditiously passed as soon as we came into office, to bring clarity to your conditions of service. I have also, by way of legal opinion, advised the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission that your issues about allowances are legitimate, pursuant to the C.I. I have always been with you and will ensure that you get what is due to you,” Dr Ayine said in his opening remarks
Dr Ayine also pledged to take up their matters directly with the Minister for Finance for urgent resolution.
“I have a meeting with the Finance Minister tomorrow and your issues are top of the agenda. Your role in justice delivery is critical and as Minister of Justice, I will ensure that these concerns are addressed immediately,” Dr Ayine told the JUSAG leadership.
The leadership of JUSAG commended the Attorney-General for standing with them, for his open-door approach, and for his willingness to champion their cause at the highest levels of government.
“We have had a reason to smile at this meeting because you have demonstrated that you are indeed with us. If there’s one public official who has understood our issues, then it is you, Mr Minister. This is a very productive meeting, and we will reflect on your plea with us to return to work and make a decision accordingly while we await feedback from your meeting with the Finance Minister,” Mr Abdulai Yakubu, JUSAG General Secretary, remarked.
Both parties expressed optimism that the engagement would pave the way for a swift return to normalcy in the courts and for a lasting solution to the concerns raised by staff.
JUSAG declared an indefinite strike on Friday, October 30, 2026, over unpaid allowances and has since been meeting with relevant stakeholders to seek a resolution to its concerns.
