Ghana Assures Port Workers, Says There Won’t Be Job Losses

Accra, June 29, 2019//-Ghana has assured workers that there will be no job losses in the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) as a result of the Meridian Ports (MPS) operations.

According to a press statement dated June 28, 2019, and signed by Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, Transport Minister, “In his commitment to promote economic prosperity, whilst maintaining socio-industrial harmony in Ghana’s ports industry, the President, Nana Akufo-Addo has listened to the issues raised by the GPHA workers led by the Maritime and Dock Workers Union and the Trades Union and has ple3dged to ensure that there are no job losses at the GPHA as a result of theb MPS concession Agreement”,

It continued that, “While pursuing the desired solution, operations in Terminal 3 shall commence with the existing tariffs, while the GPHA goes through due process with the relevant stakeholders for any tariff increase”.

The statement called on all parties to ensure the successful opening and smooth operations of Terminal 3.
