Accra, October 6, 2017//-Major parts of Ghana’s national capital city, Accra has been flooded following Friday morning heavy rains which lasted for three hours. The floods took over roads causing a gridlock in town with several people being locked up in their homes as businesses come to a standstill in Accra.

Those who could not walk through the flood when the rains subsided had to be carried on people’s back for a fee.

Persons cashing in on workers who want to avoid the flood and mud charged GHC1 per a person to cover distance of about 4 meters.

Kumasi had its own share

The situation was not different in the Kumasi metropolis in the Ashanti region and other parts of the country.

In Kumasi for instance, commuters were stranded at bus terminals because bridges were flooded. Several houses were flooded in suburbs like Afful-Nkwanta and Dagombaline due to the overflow of the Aboabo drainage system. The indiscriminate dumping of refuse into the drains and poor sitting of infrastructure are major causes of the flooding, TV3’s Ashanti regional correspondent, Ibrahim Abubakar reported.
