Accra, Ghana//-Ghana will mark this year’s Global Dignity Day (GDD) on 18th November 2021 with an educative program and donation for the Detsawome D/A Basic School in Sogakope in the South Tongu District in the Volta Region.
The event, which forms part of the annual GDD worldwide celebration, is to create awareness for the dignity in quality education even as the various donations augment teaching and learning activities.
TheDetsawome D/A Basic School, with a population of around 200pupils, faces overcrowding anda lack of resources essential for sustainable academic worksuch as furniture, books, and other academic facilities.
The 2021 celebration is on the theme ‘Global Dignity: A chance at quality education for all – Elevating education, Alleviating poverty’.
The Global Dignity Day is a day dedicated to educating young people on the values of respect, honor, and self-worth. On this day, young people worldwide engage in activities depicting the values of dignity.
The Day, marked on a chosen day in October every year, is used to educate and inspire young people and to help them appreciate and understand their self-worth and goals in life in a dignified way. It is also to help youth and adults to become their best selves and to assist others in a meaningful way.
Nadia Zeine, the Convener of the Accra Chapter of GDD said: “We have used the Global Dignity Day, Accra, celebrations to teach young people the values of dignity and the impact has been tremendous, and we see it growing year on year. We look forward to an even bigger impact this year.”
This year, the decision is to focus on education; inspire and motivate pupils to pursue great dreams in their education even as they lead dignified lives no matter the circumstances they find themselves in
The Accra Chapter has celebrated GDD’s yearly events for the past 10 years. Some past events have included health screening for Kayayei, essay competitions for schools, donations to the Children’s ward of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Painting and Dance competitions for primary school children, amongst others. Aside donations, the celebration is used to tackle practical pressing issues delated to the theme of dignity.
