Election In Ghana: 5 Out Of 17 Presidential Aspirants Disqualified

The 12 qualified Presidential Aspirants for December election

Accra, Ghana, October 19, 2020//-Five out of the 17 presidential aspirants filed to contest in the upcoming December elections have been disqualified by Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC).

The five who are disqualified over alleged falsification of signatures among irregularities are- Kofi Koranteng, Marricke Kofi Gane, both independent candidates;  Akwasi Odike of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Kwasi Busumburu of the People’s Action Party (PAP) and the United Front Party’s (UFP) Agyenim Boateng.

The Chairperson for the EC, Jean Mensa who announced at this at a press conference in Accra today, explained that a lot of irregularities caused the disqualification of the affected candidates.

According to her, cases that bother on allegations of forgery of signatures and manufacturing of endorsees have been forwarded to the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for action.

Mrs Mensa said that the GHS100,000 filing fee would be refunded to the said candidates in line with the rules surrounding the process.

While 12 presidential aspirants have successfully been cleared to contest the December presidential elections. They are- Nana Akufo-Addo, John Mahama, Alfred Walker, Bridgitte Dzorgbenuku, Akua Donkor, Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, Hassan Ayariga, Ivor Greenstreet, Kofi Akpaloo, David Apasera and Henry Herbert Lartey.
