Accra, Ghana, October 12, 2020//-Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, a Medical Doctor, Health Policy, Planning and Financing Analyst & Former Minister for Communications has stated emphatically that Free Primary Health Care Remains a Movement and a Necessity for Ghanaians.
Former President John Dramani Mahama and flagbearer of National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December election will implement the Free Primary Health Care for all Ghanaians, including the young and the elderly if he wins the election.
This is because there are still many Ghanaians who cannot afford the cost of basic health care.
Primary Health Care which was proposed by the World Health Organisation 42 years ago advances the frontiers of social justice – inclusivity. It will serve as a fitting linchpin for the realisation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, Health for All.
Contributing to “The Key Points” discussion on TV3 over the weekend, Dr Omane Boamah said the proposed Free Primary health Care would be the single largest social intervention under the Fourth Republic.
The Free Primary Health Care Plan according to him would deliver preventive health, health promotion interventions and curative care in the country.
“It seeks to provide quality health care for all Ghanaians at no cost to the individual. And President Mahama has demonstrated his unquenchable determination to implement it”, he stressed.
Under the Free Primary Health Care Plan, no Ghanaian will pay for health care in District hospitals, polyclinics, health centres and Community Health Planning Services (CHPS) compounds.
Notably, people will not need a National Health Insurance (NHIS) card to benefit from Free Primary Health Care, Dr Omane Boamah added.
