As the conversation about sustainable mining practices, the effects of illegal mining, and the prosecution of persons involved intensifies, we are pleased to share a recent publication by the Center.
Produced by CDD-Ghana interns Gioia Serena Wang and Elena Weinreich, this paper examines the factors fuelling Chinese involvement in Ghana’s artisanal and small-scale mining sector and why enforcement measures have struggled to address the challenges.
The study also offers insights into mining governance, livelihoods, and pathways toward more sustainable and inclusive reforms.
