David Hagan,Heroes of Change nominee

Accra, Ghana, June 22, 2019//-As we enter the second week of the MTN Heroes of Change Season 5 TV series, the spotlight will be on 29-year-old David Hagan,a young man who was determined to make a difference in his community although he had nothing.

He is the founder of Galaxy Foundation, situated in Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

David started the Foundation 7 years ago out of a desire to help the marginalized in society having experienced similar difficulties in his life.  He lost his father at a tender age.

Without any source of funding, he engaged his friends and some benevolent organizations to help him bring this dream to life. Through the Foundation, over 210 patients, both children and adults, have undergone surgeries ranging from cleft palate, hernia and other abnormal growths.

Additionally, over 2000 people in deprived communities have benefited from free health screening and donations made to needy homes.

The Galaxy Foundation is funded by proceeds mobilized from Facebook, friends, and churches. They also solicit for support from surgeons who can support their project at half price for the patients.

Narrating his story, David Hagan said:“I lost my dad right after JHS. When he died, things changed so fast that sometimes we had to beg from family and friends to eat.

I struggled through secondary school. One day, I was walking by the roadside and saw a young girl with her mum begging on the street. At that instant, something struck me and I felt it was time for me to make a change. I had nothing but I was determined to make sure people lived a good life, and that’s when I started Galaxy Foundation.”

Commenting on David’s project, the Corporate Services Executive of MTN Ghana Mr. Samuel Koranteng said :“We initiated the MTN Heroes of Change to identify and reward projects such as Galaxy Foundation.”
