Accra, Ghana//- Franchise Foods Africa, a 50/50 Joint-Venture between Royalty QSR Ghana Limited, a company owned by Ghanaians and Vivo Energy, is poised to open 50+ branches across four African countries in the next five years.
The Franchise Foods Africa which is a franchisee of King Burger, a leading America’s fast-food chains mentioned the four African countries as Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya and Uganda.
The General Manager (GM) and Country Manager of Burger King Ghana, Madam Emefa Nordor, told African Eye Report that Royalty QSR hopes to expand beyond just Burger King in the future to include a mix of local and foreign brands.
Drivers of foreign fast food businesses
Madam Nordor attributed the drivers of foreign fast food businesses in Ghana and other parts of Accra to the rising demand for foreign fast food by Ghanaians and other nationals.
She explained: “The Ghanaian consumer class is growing and several Ghanaians have already experienced some of these brands due to the world becoming increasingly more global.
As a result, Western brands are extremely interested in accessing African markets such as Ghana. The reverse is also true, with so many Ghanaians living abroad; you find more Ghanaian restaurants in the UK or US than ever before”.
— a great opportunity
“For us, some of the foreign fast food brands present a great opportunity to also learn best operational practices to infuse into some of our local brand partnerships such as Dough Man Foods and Pizzaman”.
That is why Royalty QSR Ghana Limited was created specifically to operate Burger King in Ghana instead of starting its fast food business at a fresh.
Objective
“Our objective is centered on catering to the Ghanaian consumers’ evolving taste, creating employment and building up the Ghanaian food service industry.
As our restaurant portfolio increases, we hope to venture into other industries that support restaurant off-takers such as packaging and agri-business”, Madam Nordor revealed.
Why Ghanaians choose Burger King
When asked why Ghanaians should choose Burger King product(s) over the others, Madam Nordor who studied at the Swiss Hotel Management School, said: “ There is room for Ghanaians to enjoy our products as well as other products. Our objective is to continue to help develop the food and hospitality industry in Ghana”.
Affordability
“Our products are relatively affordable. Some of our King Deals go for as low as 15 GHC which can get you a small Burger and Fries. We also have other menu items that range from GHC10 to 60 GHC so it depends on the customers’ preference”.
Employment
Burger King, which has been in Ghana for almost four years with branches such as Accra Mall, Airport Shell, Palace Mall and Dansoman Shell, all in Accra, has employed over 90 Ghanaians.
Each branch employs about 20-25 Ghanaians including the management team, so far we have over 90+ Ghanaians employed, Madam Nordor stated.
She therefore entreated Ghanaians and other nationals in the country to visit any Burger King branch near them for a special treat.
