BBC World Service to Broadcast ‘The Arts Hour On Tour’ Episode in Nairobi

The Arts Hour on Tour is the BBC World Service’s flagship arts and culture programme, visiting great cities around the world and exploring their hottest trends and issues by talking to the artists who live and work there.

On 21 February 2023 The Arts Hour on Tour in Nairobi was recorded, in English, at the Kenya National Theatre, for broadcast on BBC World Service on Saturday 18 March, Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 March 2023.

On location in this vibrant city to hear about Kenya’s vibrant culture, presenter Nikki Bedi was on stage in front of a live audience, talking to star guest artists who are drawing on the myths, histories and traditions of Kenya to shape new ideas and artforms for the future.

The programme features live music from Savara Mudigi and Polycarp Otieno, from the Afro-pop group Sauti Sol, and rapper and entrepreneur Muthoni Drummer Queen. There is stand-up comedy from Doug Mutai and interviews and conversation with Tirana’s top creatives, including ‘Rafiki’ actor Sheila Munyiva, and ‘Terastorm’ filmmaker, 3D animator and game designer, Andrew Kaggia

The Arts Hour on Tour in Nairobi will be broadcast on BBC World Service radio: www.bbc.com/worldserviceradio  on Saturday 18 March at 2006 GMT, Tuesday 21 March at 1006 GMT and Wednesday 22 march at 0006 GMT.

Previous editions of The Arts Hour on Tour have been live on stage in Paris, Jerusalem, Jaipur, New Orleans, Berlin, Venice, Reykjavik, Seoul, Edinburgh, St Petersburg, Mexico City, Mumbai, Copenhagen, Addis Ababa, San Francisco, Amsterdam, Montreal, Brussels, Johannesburg, Tunis, Milan, Bogota, London, Warsaw, Accra, Nashville, Tblisi, Sarajevo, Sau Paulo, Miami, Lisbon, New York, Seattle, Los Angeles, Helsinki, Jakarta and Tirana. We also recorded ‘virtual’ shows in Rome, Stockholm and Sydney during Covid 19 Lockdowns.
