Attack on Class Media Journalist: CEO Calls on Ghana Police to Investigate the Incident Dispassionately

Alhaji Seidu Agongo and the victim

Accra, Ghana//-The CEO of Class Media Group, Alhaji Seidu Agongo, today called on the Ghana Police Service to investigate the recent attack on his journalist, Samuel Addo, dispassionately and bring the perpetrators to book publicly.

The journalist was at the Kasoa new market in the Central Region on Sunday night, January 4, 2026, to report on the fire outbreak that was sweeping across the market.

He said he returned to the scene this morning for a follow-up report for the morning show at the radio station he was assigned to, and while there, he saw some fire officers assaulting a civilian and he took out his phone to film the incident, but some fire officers, about 10 of them, rushed on him, seized his phone and assaulted him, even though he had identified himself to them as a journalist.

According to Addo, he has complained to the police and has been issued a medical form to attend the hospital.

In a statement issued today, Mr Agongo said: “This is not just about one journalist—it is about safeguarding the rights of all citizens and preserving Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of press freedom”.

He used the opportunity to once again assure the reporter that the victim of the best possible health care and legal support.

Class Media Group, according to Mr Agongo, would stand firmly behind him to get to the bottom of this matter and ensure that those responsible are duly punished.

“The silence of the Fire Service’s management is loud enough but we are assured that the Ghana Police Service will live up to its mandate”.

He also thanked their fellow media houses and all well-meaning Ghanaians for calling out the Fire Service on this matter.

“The videos circulating are simply despicable. They show firefighters, in full-service uniform, beating an innocent journalist – a fellow citizen – with rage and fury. Such conduct has no place in a democratic society that values law, order, and press freedom”, the Group CEO stated.

While expressing his deepest concern over the unfortunate attack on one of their journalists by uniformed personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service, Mr Agongo lamented: “This incident is a blot on the discipline, integrity, and the core mandate of protecting lives and property that their training and calling require of them.
