Alhaji Seidu Agongo

Accra, Ghana//-The CEO of Class Media Group, Alhaji Seidu Agongo, today called for a swift probe into the attack on his journalist, Samuel Addo.

The journalist was at the Kasoa new market in the Central Region on Sunday night, January 4, 2026, to report on the fire outbreak that was sweeping across the market.

He said he returned to the scene this morning for a follow-up report for the morning show at the radio station he was assigned to, and while there, he saw some fire officers assaulting a civilian and he took out his phone to film the incident, but some fire officers, about 10 of them, rushed on him, seized his phone and assaulted him, even though he had identified himself to them as a journalist.

According to Addo, he has complained to the police and has been issued a medical form to attend the hospital.

In a statement, Mr Agongo said: “We urge the relevant authorities to conduct a swift and impartial investigation to establish the facts and ensure accountability.

Our journalist was performing his lawful duties, and we expect full cooperation from all parties to safeguard media practitioners. We remain committed to promoting responsible journalism and call for calm as this matter is addressed, he added.

On behalf of the Class Media Group, Mr Agongo expressed deep concern over the assault on one of the Group’s journalists by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service.

“Such incidents not only threaten press freedom and the safety of journalists but also undermine Ghana’s credibility and standing as a champion of media rights”.
