CONSUMERS OF petroleum products would soon park their vehicles and motorcycles, as a result of a fuel shortage in some parts of Accra.
African Eye News visits to some fuel filling stations in Adabraka and other parts of the central business district of Accra saw dozens of people queuing to buy petrol and diesel which the station managers say are in short supply.
The manageress of So Energy station in Adabraka Madam Occansey, said the station has not had petrol in the last two weeks.
In her own words: “Currently we have only diesel at the station, we’ve been out of super for awhile …we’ve been trying but we get minimal quantity and we bring it to the station and by three days maximum it is done(Finished)”.
Also, at the Total filling station at Adabraka, the manager John Evlo said his station ran out of diesel only, while other petroleum commodities were in stock.
However, the manager of Engen Ghana limited at the central business district of Accra, Stanley Nutsugah was hopeful that the situation would be normalise by the close of the day.
Several attempts made by the African Eye News to reach the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) to ascertain the cause of the shortage proved futile.
It could be recalled that about three month ago, Accra and the nine other regions of the country experienced acute fuel shortage which hit-hard on the Ghanaian economy.
The President John Dramani Mahama had to intervene by directing the Finance Minister, Seth Tekper, to release $60 million to the Bulk Oil Distribution Companies (BDCs) which allegedly locked fuel tanks due to government’s indebtedness to it members .
The government said the payment of the debt would ensure that there is enough fuel in the system.
