Accra, Ghana//-MTN Ghana has equipped more than 1,400 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) across the 16 regions of Ghana with digital skills and digital tools to drive the growth and profitability of their businesses.
Senior Manager for SME Sales, Partnerships and Business Broadband at MTN Ghana, Mohammed Abubakar Sidick, disclosed this during an interview at the opening of a two-day MTN Ghana SME Clinic in Accra on Wednesday, 9, September 2026.
According to him, so far the telecoms company and its partners have trained more than 1,400 SMEs in batches.
“This is the sixth one this year. Last year, we did four batches, and this year we added two batches. This is the sixth batch we’ve done this year. So far, we have trained over 1,400 of these SMEs, and today we are training over 200 of them to be equipped with all the available digital solutions and all the opportunities that will be available for our SMEs to grow”, Mr Sidick explained.
He said the company started the SME Clinic training in the Volta, Eastern, Ashanti, Western, Northern and the Greater Accra regions.
They held the last clinic in Accra because it is the citadel of SMEs. The majority of SMEs in the country are based in Accra and Kumasi, according to him.

Digital tools for the SMEs
All the SMEs which went through the clinics were connected to the MTN Business solutions and tools such as MTN Y’ello Biz, which allows SMEs to have stable internet connectivity. It also allows them to create websites for their businesses to enable them to become globally connected.
Explaining further, Mr Sidick said the MTN Y’ello Biz is designed for small businesses and offers a modern telephony solution that eliminates the need for a switchboard by replacing it with a privately managed call controller or server that delivers a secure phone service to businesses through a reliable internet connection.
Another product that the beneficiary SMEs are enjoying is Microsoft 365, which is a subscription-based cloud service from Microsoft that includes productivity apps, collaboration tools, and cloud storage.
Microsoft 365, he added, also allows SMEs to connect from different locations. All these are possible as a result of the Y’ello Biz that MTN has curated for these SMEs in order for them to grow and make profits, he said.
“Aside from that, we also have our Business Eye, which allows SMEs to be able to access their businesses wherever they are. In other words, they see whatever is happening at their business premises”.
Most of the SMEs in Ghana are very hesitant to leave their businesses or their shops because of the fact that they don’t trust anyone. So, MTN Ghana has come out with a solution that allows them to monitor their businesses from a distance, Mr Sidick said.
The Business Eye is a CCTV camera that comes with two power. One is electricity, while the other is solar. It can also store SMEs’ or users’ data in the cloud.
Not forgetting “Adwumapa,” which he described as a support package targeted at women entrepreneurs, offering affordable voice and data bundles, insurance benefits and access to a doctor-on-call service.
According to him, women managed more than 51% of SMEs in Ghana, making it important to design solutions that supported both their businesses and well-being.
Taking the over 200 SME participants through the Accra clinic, Brand and Marketing Consultant and Lead Facilitator of the MTN Business Clinic, Richard Maglo, advised them to pay greater attention to research and development of their products and services.
He also urged them to shift from product and sales eras of marketing to relationships, which is relevant to the current dispensation.

Touching on the theme of the Accra clinic: ‘Developing an Effective Marketing Strategy for Domestic and Global Business Advantage’, Mr Maglo noted that most SMEs are struggling to shine because of bad marketing strategies.
Ms Leticia Ohene-Asiedu, a fashion business owner and others who spoke with this publication said the clinic had deepened their understanding of business operations and digital transformation.

According to them, the practical and theoretical sessions delivered by MTN and its partners would help them improve their businesses and position themselves for growth in increasingly competitive markets.
