Dzidzor Has Lost Mental Focus– Counsel

HivTHE LAWYER for the embattled former Ghana’s HIV/AIDS Ambassador, Mrs. Dzidzor Mensah, has stirred another controversy following his call on the public to disregard any statement by his client, until an ongoing psychological treatment being undertaken on her has been completed.

Lawyer Kojo Koranteng says he will not regard any testimony by his client as credible until he is convinced beyond reasonable doubts that the former HIV Ambassador is psychologically fit and in the right frame of mind to make a statement.

According to him, his client appears inconsistent in her public statement, a situation Lawyer Koranteng attributes to an effect on her psychological wellbeing.

Speaking in an interview with a local radio station, HELLO FM, Lawyer Koranteng said his client is currently going through serious psychological problem and being assisted medically by some high profile experts to overcome it.

“Right now, I do not want to take anything Joyce says as credible until I am convinced she is okay; Let’s face facts, the lady has gone through a lot over the years, having to live with the stigma, coupled with the social degradation her children had to go through as a result of her status as a publicly acclaimed HIV patient,” Lawyer Koranteng contended.

Mrs. Dzidzor Mensah stirred controversy at the latter part of December 2014 when she publicly announced that she had never been HIV positive and that she had all this while lied to the public. She is currently being investigated by Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service after a complaint by her former employees, the Ghana AIDS Commission, to ascertain the authenticity of her claim.

There were reports that the under fire former HIV Ambassador may be forced to undergo a compulsory medical test by the security agency as part of efforts to verify her claim of being HIV negative, but this has been contended by her Legal Counsel who insists his client cannot be forced to undertake the test unless there is an order by a court of competent jurisdiction.

However, Lawyer Koranteng stated during the interview that his client had been cooperating with the police denying, however, that Mrs. Dzidzor Mensah was being compelled to undergo a fresh test.

According to him, as a Legal Representative, he will only formally interrogate his client and get her side of the story after he is adequately satisfied that she is ready to talk. The Chronicle
